Welcome to Montana Trout camp
April 28th through May 4th 2024
Both FFI Casting Instructors Chris Gerono and Matt Swan welcomes you to the 9th annual Montana Trout Camp! We are fortunate to be able to hold our advanced Fly-Fishing school in one of North America’s most beautiful places.
We will wade fish the iconic DePuy’s and Armstrong's spring creeks and fly fish out of a drift boat one of the stillwater’s of Paradise Valley Montana. Water dependent, we will also be drift fishing the Yellowstone River or the Lower Madison River. We will keep our fingers crossed for the Mother's Day Caddis Hatch! All this with the emphases on learning HOW to fish different waters and techniques. We will learn by doing. Class time will be presented after breakfast giving more time for learning on the water. Most days there will be a lunch time seminar.
We look forward to your arrival after 5 pm on Sunday, April 28th. After breakfast, Saturday May 4th we will send you off with more Fly Fishing knowledge and a smile on your face.

Included in your stay are all accommodations, meals, rod fees to Armstrong’s Spring Creek, DePuy’s Spring Creek, and a Private Lake. You will be provided guides on the Lower Madison or Yellowstone River. Not included is your 2023 Montana Fishing License or gratuities to our wonderful staff.
The cost of this experience is $3,500.00. That is a big bang for the buck.

Below is our basic formula to have anglers gain over all confidence and knowledge in all aspects of trout fishing while creating a lifelong experience in Paradise and Shields Valley.
Sunday Evening
Hors d’oeuvres and Introductions. We will outline the program for the week and discuss your goals and what you want to take home from the experience.
Presentation on “Basic Fly Fishing.” This presentation will be bring anglers up to speed with basic fly fishing knowledge and terminology. We will also discuss reading water, proper fish handling and photography.
Monday
Morning Presentation on “Selective Trout”
Depart to fish the selective trout of DePuy’s Spring Creek.
Lunch - Presentation on advanced casting techniques.
We will grill dinner on the Depuy’s property and have the opportunity to fish into the evening. We will MOUSE the CREEK!
Tuesday
Morning Presentation on “Entomology”
Drift boat fishing the Yellowstone or Madison River. We will be learning the nuances and techniques of fishing out of drift boat. During the day you will have the opportunity to learn how to safely row and position a drift boat. BIG TIP, anglers that know how to row a boat get invited on many more fishing trips.
Riverside lunch will include on the river entomology and mending demonstrations….. back to the boats!
Wednesday
Morning Presentation on “Stillwater Tactics”
Depart to fish on one of Paradise Valley’s premiere stillwaters. During the day you will be fishing out of a drift boat and have the opportunity to target trout by multiple tactics given during the morning presentation.
Thursday
Morning Presentation on “The Art of Nymphing”
Depart for Armstrong’s Spring Creek to put all that was learned during the week into action.
Streamside lunch then back to fishing.
We will be serving Montana style gourmet dinner followed up with freestyle fly tying.
Friday
Morning Presentation on “Throwing Meat, aka Streamer Fishing”
Back to Armstrong’s Spring Creek. We start and finish the week fishing the technical waters of spring creeks to show how much progress was made during the school. To cap off the week it is off to Chico Hot Springs to soak and and taste adult beverages (Your Soaks Are Payed For)
Saturday
Wake up at a leisurely pace, eat breakfast and head back to showcase you newly learned skills on your home waters.
